Our Programs: Watershed Coalition

At One Truckee River, partnership and collaboration are central to everything we do. In our role as connector and convener, we’re making steady progress toward realizing the many goals of the One Truckee River Management Plan. We’re working alongside our partners in local government to implement the ideas laid out in local plans, including the Truckee River Vision Plan created for the City of Reno and Washoe County.

The foundation of One Truckee River is its Partnership Council, comprising dozens of representatives from local agencies and nonprofits sharing resources and expertise as we work together towards our shared mission for a healthy and thriving Truckee River connected to our community.

One Truckee River Management Plan

Adopted by local governments in 2016, the One Truckee River Management Plan identifies over 100 action items to protect the Truckee River: including projects and programs to improve water quality, create a thriving environment, and conduct education and community outreach. In 2017, the OTR Watershed Coalition prioritized 9 action items – which we’re working to implement today through our collaborative projects.

 Truckee River Community Advisory Team

We’re supporting the engagement of local community leaders in river stewardship and improvements through the Truckee River Community Advisory Team – with support from the National Park Service and River Network. By working with community stakeholders from many diverse backgrounds along the urban stretch of the Truckee River, east of downtown Reno, we’re learning about their lived experiences, how they spend time along the river, and the interests and needs they’d like to see addressed.

Using the community-led research model, we surveyed 157 community residents – including homeowners, business owners, representatives from the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) and Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality (RISE), and individuals who are currently experiencing homelessness. In May 2024, we published our results. Here’s what we learned:
