Speak up! The Truckee River is the lifeblood of the Truckee Meadows. Issues that affect the river are vast, diverse, and complicated. Learn more about these issues and be a voice for the Truckee River by engaging in local topics and expressing your thoughts to decision-makers and influencers.

Volunteer for the Truckee River
Grab your family and friends and enjoy a sunny afternoon volunteering in your neighborhood riverside park—or get more hands-on with a long-term project! Many community events focus on supporting the Truckee River. Spend time picking up litter and debris along the river's banks, removing invasive plants, collecting data, and other efforts to protect and enhance the Truckee River corridor.
Here’s how you can volunteer for the Truckee River with our community and government partners:
City of Reno Parks and Recreation
Beautify our local parks as a drop-in volunteer, continuous volunteer, or volunteer group. Work areas include the Rose Garden and Greenhouse. The City of Reno continuously connects with other agencies conducting neighborhood cleanups and more! You can learn more about the City’s efforts and upcoming opportunities here.
City of Sparks
Volunteer with the Sparks Parks & Recreation Department.
Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful
Participate in one of several community clean-ups throughout the year. Or, “adopt a spot” near your home or office to care for throughout the year. KTMB’s most significant annual events include April’s Great Community Cleanup and September’s Truckee River Cleanup.
Nevada Department of Wildlife
Get involved as a wildlife volunteer to participate in projects such as fish sampling, hunter education, nesting surveys, angler education, water development (guzzlers), and more.
Nevada Division of Environmental Protection
Engage in recycling and sustainability efforts across Nevada by becoming a stakeholder, volunteering with a community organization,, or starting a project with Partners for Sustainable Nevada.
Nevada Land Trust
Lend your time and expertise to advocate for open space protection and conservation. The Nevada Land Trust is always looking for volunteer property appraisers, surveyors, attorneys, communications professionals, office helpers, photographers, land stewards, GIS analysts, and other roles.

Provide life-saving and life-changing services to the most vulnerable members of our community.
Northern Nevada Public Health
Join the Washoe County Medical Reserve Corps. If you are a licensed medical practitioner, someone with clinical training and experience, or someone with no medical background but the desire to help our community prepare for and respond to a public health emergency, the Washoe County Medical Reserve Corps needs you!
Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe
Support the community as a volunteer firefighter, community service worker, or in Social Service roles, including working with foster children.
Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equity (RISE)
Prepare a large meal, side dish, dessert, or beverage with your friends and family and serve it with RISE’s staff at the Community Assistance Center (CAC).
Sierra Nevada Journeys
Make a difference in science education when you lead children on science exploration trips or help engage families with science. Whether you join for a few hours or years, Sierra Nevada Journeys is grateful to everyone who joins their mission.
Tahoe Pyramid Trail
Give of your time and - or even your specialized skillset - where you volunteer for trail maintenance, title research, signs, GPS mapping, route inspection, design, grant writing, investment advising, permitting, video production, and public relations.
The Nature Conservancy
Greet visitors and help organize educational events when you volunteer with their new docent program at River Fork Ranch Preserve in Genoa.
Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation
Contribute to park programming and beautification through a variety of ongoing volunteer positions. TMPF is currently seeking volunteers for docent-led programming, content creation, observing and recording field observations, refilling doggie bag stations, and a variety of other projects.

Improve our community when you get involved in disaster relief, advocate for children, help out at the emergency shelter, and more. Explore a variety of opportunities.
Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space
Participate in Washoe County Parks’ established volunteer program, with hands-on opportunities to assist in keeping our parks clean, attractive, and safe for everyone to enjoy. Support your local park as a Park Ranger Aid, Litter Picker, Trail Monitor, or Visitor Center Host.
