Your Business/Organization + the Truckee River = Benefits Galore

Surprise, it's March! You know what that means? One Truckee River Month is only two months away!

One Truckee River Month (OTRM) is an opportunity to celebrate the Truckee River watershed with the entire community. And when we say celebrate, we mean a variety of ways. We're talking riverside yoga and bike rides, walking tours, river-inspired art, composting and fly fishing lessons.... We could really go on for ages.

The good news for you: We're still looking for businesses to participate! There are 31 different days and an infinite amount of ways your business can participate in this river-wide event this May.

Sparkle Yoga hosted two ~free~ yoga sessions at Lunford Park, right next to the Truckee River, in 2018.

Okay, I'm listening...

The first ever One Truckee River Month in May 2018 provided citizens of and visitors to the Truckee Meadows community with an expansive menu of river and watershed-related events. Thanks (shoutout?) to Renown (<3) for sponsoring OTRM and encouraging people to get active along the river.

Ultimately, over 7,700 unique visitors enjoyed the numerous opportunities. And that was just year one. This year we're offering incentives to get people to these events, including donations from REI, Patagonia, Reno Aces & 1868 FC, and the Mesa Rim Climbing & Fitness (and that's only a few!).

A sample of success stories from 2018:

  • A mid-month wine tasting at Java Jungle featured wines originating from international vineyards along rivers. A local UNR poet read short Truckee River poems to the wine-tasting audience – triple the normal number of participants, according to the host.
  • Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF) hosts weekly walks through local parks every spring through fall, and during May 2018, all Discover Your Parks events were hosted in parks along the river: Riverwalk District parks, Mayberry Park, Lockwood Loop and Interpretive Trail, Dorostkar Park and Oxbow Nature Study Area. Two hundred and fourteen people attended these four events – a significant increase in regular attendance, according to TMPF staff.
  • Tahoe-Pyramid Trail’s Annual Cookie Ride with the Procrastinating Pedalers saw 80 cyclists bike along the river path from Rock Park/Sparks Marina to Crystal Peak Park and back.
  • The cities of Reno and Sparks and Washoe County each officially proclaimed May 2018 as One Truckee River Month. (And they'll do so again this year!)

Our promise to you:

If your business decides to join the fun, we will add your event to our grand ole' calendar PLUS plaster your event all over our social media! We're all about showing appreciation for those who appreciate the river.

I think I need one last push to commit!

Does your business want to be involved with the local community? Forge lasting and personal bonds with your customers?

Northern Nevada is pretty big on hometown pride, and one of the iconic jewels of our region is, in fact, the Truckee River! Not only does it provide a beautiful glimpse of nature and an opportunity for recreation, but it also provides ~85% of our drinking water. So yes, the Truckee River is kind of a big deal.

One Truckee River Month is bringing everyone together to show some river love and this is your business's opportunity to appreciate the Truckee River in a way that fits your style.

Bookstore? Host a water-themed book club or discussion. (We have some book suggestions for you right here.)
