Don’t lose focus! Now’s your shot to enter River Photos: A Community Photo Contest

Unless you're living under a rock, you've probably heard we're currently holding a River Photos competition. There are four categories -- people, landscape, mobile device, and youth -- and photos must be of the Truckee River or one of its tributaries. All entries must be submitted by April 1st.

But what’s in it for you? We've developed a whole list!

The Prizes

We’re all about community here at One Truckee River, so it won’t surprise you we’ve tried to include lots of local businesses in our River Photos contest prizes this year. We’ve got a little something for everyone.

For the kiddos, we’ve snagged some Discovery Museum Tickets. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out their Truckee Connects exhibit for a chance to learn about and interact with our watershed. And, when you're finished at the museum, you can head next door to Holey Schmidt Donuts for a sweet treat!

But what about the adults?

Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about you! We have a selection of goodies including two seats on a Reno Brew Bike Tour, Bocce Ball at The Reno Renaissance Downtown Hotel, passes to the Nevada Museum of Art, and gift cards to Great Full Gardens and Reno eNVy.

The Venue

We couldn’t display the winning photos just anywhere...but luckily our friends over at the Patagonia Outlet Reno have offered up their incredible store to be our photo gallery for the duration of One Truckee River Month in May.

There will also be a Gallery Opening there the second week of May, accompanied by a presentation from some superstar local photographers and authors. Talk about official!

An opportunity to get creative or learn a new skill

If you’re new to photography, don’t crop yourself out of contention just yet! This could be just the opportunity you need to learn a new skill, which is good for your brain and for your memory. Better yet, photography is a multifaceted art so there’s tons for you to delve into as your skills grow.

If you're already feeling confident in your photography, then just relish in how creativity can provide balance and respite in our already busy and chaotic lives. It gives your mind room to breathe, and who doesn’t love finally capturing that perfect image?!

Ron Swanson definitely wasn’t right about this one.

You get to spend time along the river.

As if you needed another reason to spend more time along our sparkling river, we’re giving you one anyway. The Truckee River doesn’t have a bad side. There are so many places, times, and opportunities to capture the river in all its glory.

Going on a walk along the Truckee? Bring your phone or camera along to snap some pics for when inspiration strikes you.

Need a quick break from work? Catch some fresh air along the river and immortalize your time there with a photo.

Want some exercise? Get on your bike and venture down the river to an area you haven’t explored yet, who knows what you’ll find.

Here’s just a taste…

One Truckee River is a community partnership and One Truckee River Month wouldn’t be possible without support from countless businesses and organizations in our region (especially Renown, who's sponsoring the entire month!). River Photos: A Community Photo Contest won’t be possible without you.

There’s nothing to lose from entering, and there's lots to share when it comes to the Truckee River. So get yourself outside and find your inner photographer.
